Why transport IKEA purchases yourself

Store delivery usually takes a day or two and costs extra. With a rental van you collect your furniture straight away, when it suits you.

Flat-pack boxes travel far better in a cargo van than in a car: they stack side by side, stay dry and you do not risk damaging your car. No deposit is needed for cargo vans and companies receive an R1 invoice.

Which van for an IKEA trip?

L2H2 – smaller purchases: textiles, lighting, a few small boxes (approx. 10.8–11 m³)
L3H2 – wardrobes, beds and desks; long, rigid boxes (approx. 13 m³)
L3H3 – tall shelving and boxes stacked in columns (approx. 14–14.8 m³)
L4H3 – high-volume furniture and boxes up to 4.2 m long (approx. 17 m³)

How to load flat-pack boxes

Stand long, flat boxes upright along the side walls and lean them against each other so they do not tip over in bends.

Heavy boxes go on the floor towards the cab, light and soft items on top. Secure the load with straps and protect corners with a blanket.
